About Us
Commander S.T.Ali, NM (Retd.), established Commander Ali’s Academy of Merchant Navy at Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) on the 1st of September 1994 on superannuating from the Indian Navy where he put in over 42 years of meritorious service. Commander Ali started this Academy with the aim of passing on his vast legacy of maritime knowledge to the youth of today and also to encourage the young aspirants to join the adventurous profession of Merchant Navy.
The Academy shifted its operations to Hyderabad in June 2001. Since then it has grown from strength to strength and today it offers one of the best facilities in the field of maritime training in India. The Academy is an ISO 9001:2015 Institution certified by DNV GL and all its courses have been approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Government of Australia and Liberian International Ships and Corporate Registry (LISCR), Republic of Liberia. The Academy trains cadets and ratings using a combination of practical demonstrations and classroom teaching using sophisticated Simulators, software and audio-video equipment thus giving a real time feel of life on board a ship.
We at Commander Ali's Academy strive hard to provide a wholesome education to our trainees. We strongly believe that our trainees should pass out from our institution not only as good seafarers but also as complete individuals who would excel in every field of life. With this aim in mind we have divided our training programme in such a manner that apart from classroom teaching the trainees also have ample time for leisure and amusement. In this manner we ensure that the trainees who graduate from Commander Ali's Academy are of the highest quality and competent to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the profession across the world.
Commander Ali’s Academy is promoted by “Commander Ali’s Educational Society” a society registered under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act. As a progressive and leading teaching and training institute, CAAMN provides international recognition in addition to a holistic learning experience that is over and above mandatory requirements, giving seafarers that extra edge in ensuring a safer and more efficient running of ships.
It is the institutes commitment to provide an outstanding maritime training opportunity to the Indian and international seafarers in addition to developing and nurturing a future generation of competent professional seafarers to carry on the difficult task of the shipping industry for the 21st century and beyond.
About the Founder :
Commander Syed Turab Ali, NM (Retd.), the Founder Director of Commander Ali's Academy of Merchant Navy (CAAMN), served in the Indian Navy for over 42 years. He has had a distinguished career in the Indian Navy and for his unflinching dedication and zest in the profession he was awarded the Nau Sena Medal (NM) by the Government of India. During the course of his service
he worked in various training oriented organizations such as National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla), Naval Academy (Kochi), Defence Services Staff College (Wellington), Seamanship School (Kochi) and various Indian Naval training and war ships. He also held the Master's Certificate of Competency.
He established CAAMN on 01st September 1994 at Kakinada after his retirement from the Indian Navy to encourage the youth to join the adventurous career of Merchant Navy and pass on his vast legacy of maritime knowledge to the young aspirants. His experience and vision has been an essential factor for the Academy attaining its present standing amongst various marine training
institutes in the country.
After the sad demise of Commander Syed Turab Ali on 23rd November 2005 at Hyderabad, following a prolonged illness. The directorial and management responsibilities of Commander Ali's Academy of Merchant Navy have devolved upon Mr. Syed Akhil Ahmed, the General Manager of the Academy, as per the decision of the Directorial Board. It is reiterated and assured that Academy's legacy and commitment to impart quality marine training, as envisioned and assiduously pursued by our late founder director would be carried forward in letter and spirit in all the future endeavours of this academy.
